Printing a Text Document into Braille AS you know, Braille characters are in six-dot form. So one space with six dots we can just define only 64 characters. While thousands of signs are used all over the world. Therefore, there are more Braille signs and rules in a Braille document. For instance, the letter A with capitalization in print is just a different symbol. While in Braille we use two space to write this letter. The first space is the capitalization sign formed by dot 4&6 (for Vietnamese document), dot 6 (for English one). And the second space is the letter a, dot 1. However, if the first space is formed with dot 3,4,5,6 (number sign). It will be number 1 instead of being the letter A any more. As a result, we need Braille translation softwares to translate print document into Braille one before it is sent to the Braille printer. In our Sao Mai Center, we are using two programs, NDC and DBTWin to translate pprint document file into Braille. Then using the Braille printer of Enabling Technology Com., Braille Express 100 to produce braille papers. We use NDC to translate Vietnamese Text file into Braille. While DBTWin is used to translate text files in other languages supported by DBTWin. Now I start to prepare some steps before printing one Vietnamese text file with NDC software. 1. Installing paper into the Braille printer. 2. Turning on the Braille printer and set paper starting at the first line of the page. And now the Braille printer is ready to receive data sent from the computer. 3. Open a text file and press the Print Command. 4. Choose the right Braille printer, the size of paper and press Enter to braille the document. Note, when I choosing the Braille printer, NDC program automatically translates the text document into Braille and sends it to the Braille printer as receiving the Enter key. 5. Wait it printing for a moment and then press Form Feed Command on the Braille Printer to take the braille papers out. Similar to NDC program as brailling document with DBTWin, I also do some preparing steps for printing docuement in Braille such as installing paper into the Braille printer and opening a text file. Then using the Translate Command to overview and correct the Braille document before it is brailled. Here we can use six-key mode to enter the text. The letter f stands for dot 1, d stands for dot 2 and the let s stands for 3. Similarly, j,k,l are stands for dot 4,5,6. Before pressing the Emboss Command (Emboss is printing one document into Braille), I choose the Braille printer and set page in the Embosser Setup dialog. Note, with DBTWin, I can emboss Braille document in many formats such as brailling a text book, Braille graphics... That is an overview about how to print a text file into braille. Thank you very much for your listenning and reading.
